The Shelter Association of Washtenaw County is proud to announce, University of Michigan’s Director of Leadership Development for Athlete’s, noted Ann Arbor High School Basketball Coach and former NFL Linebacker, Brian Townsend will be the keynote speaker at their signature event and annual fundraiser; Almost Home a golf outing and dinner reception slated for June 28th at Barton Hills Country Club.
Mr. Townsend has a long history of building community and developing talent in Ann Arbor. As an athlete on the U of M football team from 1988 to 1991 he helped the team win 4 straight Big Ten Titles. From 1998 to 2003 he coached Ann Arbor's Pioneer High School Basketball team, leading them to the school’s first ever State Championship in 1999. He then became the Director of Basketball Operations for the University of Michigan in 2007. While Director of Basketball Operations, Townsend helped oversee the resurgence of Michigan basketball into the national prominence under head coach John Beilein. In 2014, Brian became Director of Student-Athlete Development and has shaped student athletes across all sports into today’s “Leaders and Best.
We are excited for Mr. Townsend to channel his teaching, coaching and “cheerleading” experiences to lead discussions on, problem solving strategies, communication techniques and life-long health and wellness. His unique outlook on life and perspective on success will inspire you to not only do better but be better because “Success leaves footprints.”
